If you’re receiving this email for the first time, we’d like to thank you for following Half Pages, the official newsletter of And A Half. We’re happy to have you here and hope you can stick around!
We’re on Week 2 of our Workshops promotions, and we just want to say thank you to everyone who has messaged or inquired about the service. We currently offer this service to brands with creative teams, but we have been receiving a lot of inquiries about personal, one-on-one mentorship.
We don’t offer anything like that at the moment, but we are always looking for avenues to broaden the conversation on design + branding. That being said! We are now brainstorming the next Social Problems are Design Problems 2021 edition, the sequel to the virtual design conference that we held last October.
Last year, we had a doctor, an architect, an NGO worker, and a social entrepreneur in our lineup to talk about the pressing needs in their sector. This year, we want to know: What social design issues do you want to discuss? What are some of the most pressing issues today that could benefit from a design perspective? You can leave a comment here or answer the poll on our Instagram stories!
Phew. It has been more than a year since we’ve last worked together in person, which has been difficult for our studio because of all the things we used to do together offline. While we wait for the vaccinated future, we thought we’d share with you a list of the things that we’ve found helpful (both personally + productivity-wise) these days:
We do a lot of our work through Miro, an online collaborative whiteboard. Which helps us keep track of all of our projects in real-time.
This Dieter Rams documentary is free to stream until May 21, 3:00 p.m. EST (which is May 24, 3:00 a.m. our time, if we’re not mistaken)
Petra has been reading this book called Good Services by Lou Downe which she recommends if you ever want to get into service/experience design.
Every now and then we use this app called Around which we can only describe as an App if you miss workplace chatter as your background noise.
Sofi recommends these videos by Jordan Orme, a videographer who reacts to the technical details of k-pop music video. Here’s what he had to say about ITZY’s MAFIA in the morning.
Love Death + Robots is just so good, and Oscar-nominated Robert Valley is one of our favorite animators, ever. Zima Blue is probably one of the best episodes. You can check out some of his work here and here.
Ada and BJ recommend this 99 percent invisible podcast called the Tanz Tanz Revolution, which looks into the beginnings of the techno genre and the fall of the Berlin wall.
Butter just dropped and Jungkook has what seems to be an eyebrow piercing
Hope you’re having a great Friday!
